Jean Dixon who passed away on January 25, 1997 as probably the most famous psychic of our time and left a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten. The premonition that probably got psychics in general the most attention was when she foretold that President John F.Kennedy would die in office. Actually, Kennedy’s assassination took place in Dallas, Texas but her prediction was that a democratic president elected in 1960, a tall young man with blue eyes and brown hair, would die in office. Reporters were told that the president would be assassinated, according to Dixon, but they refused to put that part in print.

Dixon advised many famous celebrities, Ronald and Nancy Reagan included. The president’s schedule was set by the astrologers and psychics Nancy Reagan relied on, and for this, she was constantly hounded by the press. She classed Jean Dixon as one of the people she relied on the most until one day she decided to align herself with Dixon’s rival, Joan Quigley, convinced that Dixon had lost her powers. Dixon wrote her autobiography, horoscopes for dogs, astrological cookbooks and several books on psychic phenomena, to become the author of seven books. She was a well known influential Washington socialite and one of the leading believers in ESP.

Political columnist Ruth Montgomery was driven to write a book called “A Gift Of Prophecy: the Phenomenal Jean Dixon” following Kennedy’s death in 1963. This book was published in 1965, sold more than three million copies and told of hundreds of accurate predictions Dixon made throughout the years. Dixon was turned into an overnight celebrity with the publishing of this book and she was in demand to do lectures, eventually starting her own syndicated horoscope column, which was printed in newspapers worldwide.

She was under constant attack in tabloids all over the country and was the psychic that everybody loved to hate. It was reported by countless people that Dixon’s predictions were bogus and that including the one about Kennedy’s death, she had never made one that actually came true. A respected Mathematician by the name of John Allen Paulos coined what was known as the “Jean Dixon Effect” where people come up with a few accurate predictions but conveniently overlook the hundreds of false predictions that never come true.

The truth is, not all of Jean Dixon’s predictions came true. It was foretold that 1958 would be the year in which World War III would begin, labor leader Walter Reuther would run for president in 1964 and the first country to land a man on the moon would be Russia.

Her premonitions may not have always been accurate but Jean Dixon will remain one of the most colorful and well know psychics in history.
